Today

Today was kind of a rough day for my little Jasper. We went to the park with M and S, our wonderful neighbor friends in the morning. Jasper and M had a really fun time together-

Later on, Jasper decided to ride his little bike around on the back patio. He was contently riding around when suddenly he decided he would walk his bike off the edge and fall face first onto the concrete!!!!! Since he was holding on to the handle bars, he didn't have anything but his face to fall on to. He was screaming, I was crying, he was bleeding, and I felt horrible. Here's his face-

Jasper is so active and a little daredevil. It's so hard to keep up with him sometimes. I thought he'd figured out the edge of the patio thing because he hadn't had any issues of trying to step off the edge in a really long time. Anyway, I feel like people are going to think I've been a negligent parent or something. It's hard when your kid has scrapes and bruises to not worry what other parents are thinking.

We ended up going to the Volunteer park wading pool in the late afternoon. Jasper was as happy as ever, so he must not remember the fall. Anyway, the woes of parenthood....

I don't know if this is comforting or not, but i learned in my medical school classes that kids can sustain falls from nearly 2 stories without permanent damage (i'm sure there are exceptions but the point being they are resilient). It still breaks your heart to see your baby take a fall, but at least you don't have to worry as much about serious damage if they do fall. Again, not sure if that's helpful, but i helped me with our (almost) 2 year old daredevil.

I can't believe how old he looks first of all - so cute! He wouldn't be a true boy without some scratches on his face though, right?! :-)

Sara, you are a great mom. You allow Jasper the freedom he needs to explore and learn; I sure HOPE no other mom is looking at you without realizing how good and watchful you are to Jasper!

What a tough little guy! Poor baby. Can't wait to see him at the end of the month.

As a mom of another daredevil, I would never look at scrapes/bumps/bruises and think that the parent was negligent. It's part of growing up. Kids run into things, they fall off of things. Even when we're right there watching them. I would guarantee that on any given day Kate has a scrape or bruise somewhere on her body.

You're a great mom Sara, don't ever think otherwise! Hopefully Jasper's boo-boos heal quickly!
