Gideon and Eggless Egbert

Wow! The adjustment to two is way bigger than I thought it would be... I feel like I can't get anything done but I spend the entire day with my hands full and my head spinning and feeling utterly exhausted by the end! I remember feeling this way with Jasper but this time it's to the 10th power. I'm so delinquent on posting about little Gid.

Gideon is going to be a month old on Saturday! Rob and I think he's gotta be at least 10 lbs now. It's so interesting to see how different he is, already, from his older brother. He doesn't really like being swaddled (Jasper lived in constant swaddle for the first 6 months), he LOVES tummy time (Jasper hated being on his tummy), he likes to sleep more than eat (opposite again), and he doesn't like the car seat (Jasper was happy as a clam buckled in). Gideon is a really sweet little guy. He loves all the commotion and sounds of Jasper running around. He's having more and more alert time each day and I can see his little mind taking everything around him in. He has a definite fussy time like clockwork every evening. Our friends the Parkers and Hadleys came over for games this weekend and Gideon cried for about an hour while we were trying to play. We were both so exhausted from trying to be good hosts and comfort our little Gid at the same time that we decided to hold off on game nights for a few months. He wants to be attached to either Rob or I pretty much all day long, which is perfectly normal for a newborn and just fine with us. We both feel like we are re-learning the whole newborn thing all over since Gideon is such a different baby!! Who would have thought...

Anyway, he's a couple of pictures from last week (he broke out with baby acne the past few days, so I'm glad I snapped these ones before that happened):

(Gideon has Grandpa Bob's cleft in his chin!)

Here's the really, really sad news for me: Since having Gideon, I've developed an allergy to EGGS!!! Can you believe it! What horrible luck. I've had 5 or 6 reactions and the conclusion is eggs. What Egbert is allergic to eggs? It seems wickedly ironic. I have been craving baked cookies and cakes and brownies like crazy, so tonight a tried out an eggless cookie recipe. They turned out delicious, so the rest of my life won't be too bad after all.

Mom week

I got to have my mom here this week. She left today and I'm sad. I miss her alot. We had so much fun together. We cooed over Gideon together, entertained Jasper, and played Scrabble every night (don't ask me anymore about this, though, because I didn't play as well as usual). She was an incredible help. I have food in the freezer, my laundry is all caught up, the fridge is sparkling, and my kitchen is completely re-organized.

The other big news of the week is Rob turned 30!!! Hooray for Rob! Happy Birthday babe. My mom played a funny joke on Rob and stuck a piece of tape on his back that said "It's my birthday, wish me a good one" but NO ONE noticed it all day!! Sad, sad, sad...

Gideon's baby blessing

We blessed our little Gideon on Sunday. It was a beautiful blessing. My dad was able to stay an extra day and participate. Our dear friends the Kilburns and Schmidts came which we were really happy about. Jasper was sure excited to see Max at church, he yelled out when we walked in and saw them.

The blessing was really nice. Rob is so eloquent. Gideon's middle name, Edmond, is after my dad, so it was especially neat to have my dad there.

Lots to catch up on

Wow! I have tons to write and catch up on. Last Thursday, my mom, dad, and little brother Bobby arrived. Bobby flew out on Saturday and my dad left on Sunday. We had such a good time with them. It was so fun to show off little Gideon.

We spent Friday morning at the zoo. We saw pretty much everything. My mom took some good pictures, so I'll put them up later. Here's a few:

It's Bobby's birthday in a few days, so we decided to do a small celebration with him. My mom made his favorite Chocolate Pudding Pie and we sang and had him blow out the candles.

On Saturday, my mom and dad played with Jasper at the park in the freezing cold. It was so cold that it snowed about an inch that night.

(I took this photo from 100 feet away because I didn't want to take Gideon out of the warm car)
