How we learn things around here

Took my boys to the Volunteer Park conservatory this morning. It was awesome! When we walked in the cacti house, I knew they were going to want to touch them, so I let them. Seriously, how in the world are kids supposed to learn anything if we tell them they can't touch anything. Cacti are super sharp and poky and could seriously injure you, but I told them to use one finger and touch gently. Gosh, they sure learned fast! They both tried and granted they wanted to touch all the different types to see which was the sharpest, hairiest, softest, etc., they learned more about cacti in one morning then a kid who never touches them could learn in a lifetime. It was really fun and "sharp".

Gid's expression in the one totally cracks me up as he tries to warn Jasper...

SO sorry we missed out on this! We had a friend from Indiana in town we hadn't seen forever so we had a playdate with her and her son...but I really want to go see those pretty poisettias! (more so than the Cacti - but they do look fun, in a sharp sort of way, too!)

ouch! Do you remember that funny flourescent pink catcus we had on our windowsill growing up (maybe teenage years?). This post brought back memories of that...
