So, right now I have four sewing projects that have taken over the dining room table. For the past couple of weeks, Rob has not once complained about eating dinner standing up.
For Halloween, I am making a duck costume for Jasper. My mom used to make all six of her kid's halloween costumes every year! Can you believe it! I certainly can't. My mom must have been super woman in disguise. The saddest part is that I had no clue all the work that went into my Minnie Mouse, and pink bunny rabbit, and Maid Marian, and princess costumes. I am making Jasper's costume this year and honestly I'm not sure if I'll ever do it again. The pattern alone cost me $15 and the fabric an additional $10.
Here is what the finished product will look like:
So far, I have the jumpsuit finished. I still need to make the puffy body part, the hat and feet:
I just finished sewing a cover for a Boppy nursing pillow a friend of mine gave to me. I found a free pattern online at economicalbaby.blogspot.com , which is a fabulous website with all kinds of ideas for saving money and being crafty.

I am also trying out a new cloth diaper pattern and continuing work on the quiet book. Phew!

I've debated making Kate's costume, but don't know if it's really any cheaper.
Your stuff looks great!
Hey busy woman! I vote for buying the halloween costume next year and I'm not even the one sewing it! You can get SUPER cute Babystyle ones for $25 or cheaper. I try to stock up on costumes after Halloween when they are all half off or more. But I'm sure Jasper will be the cutest duck around! I'm SO impressed by your quiet book...you are such a good mom :-)!
I love the fabric for your boppy. I always get so excited for conference weekend because it's 2 days of listening to great talks while doing craft projects!
Um, did you know that JoAnn's has patterns on sale often for $1 or 2? Maybe they don't have one up there, I can't remember. That's okay. It's a small price to pay for living in such a great place. I am impressed with your energy level-especially with being pregnant! My mom used to sew all of our costumes too. But that was when store-bought costumes were flimsy and expensive. There is something special though about a costume that you made.
Sara, I love that boppy material. You really are busy! The duck costume looks like it is going to be SOOOOO cute. You are such a trooper to make it for Jazz while your 7 months pregnant.
You're amazing, Sara! You come up with the most creative gifts and projects. Jasper is going to love his costume, and luckily it will be worn again and again by your other kids, too! (Too young to get to choose to be Maid Marian or something!)
the costume looks so cute! good work sis - much much cuter than a cheap costume from costco! :) and you will always remember the time you put into making it. love you.
Jasper will definitely be a cute duck. I love the pictures of all my kids when they were little and I sewed all their costumes. Now I have a closet full of costumes and most of them were only used once. I never had the heart to tell my kids that they couldn't be what they wanted to be, just because I already had a different costume in their size. Now I try to buy them in November when they're on sale. But it's hard to judge sizes a year in advance when they're little. But Jonah is going to be Jack Sparrow since we picked it up last year. And he's happy about it! I loved sewing costumes and being able to make them look authentic. I always thought that I should dress as a late-night seamstress for Halloween - with thread and scraps of fabric and circles under my eyes.
Love the boppy fabric. It even has Mickey ears :)
Yeah, let me buy the pattern for you during the JoAnn pattern sale and Mail it to you. I'm in the middle of a costume creation too. I really love Halloween, but I'm feeling a little burn out. Abby will be the little blue bird (Martha Stewart), since she is a little blue bird of happiness.
