Today, Sunday, ended up being not such a fabulous end to our great weekend....
Once a month our congregation has a "linger longer" or "munch and mingle" or "chat and chew" (weird Mormons with a love for alliteration - no one would stick around for an "eat and talk") after church is over. Today I was in charge of our monochromatic green-themed linger longer - rushing around like a busy bee, getting chairs and tables set up, arranging food on platters, mixing up drinks, etc.
Meanwhile, Rob was busy taking care of both boys. He had Gideon in the Mobi wrap as he chased Jasper around. Well, Jasper climbed up on the stage and went behind the curtain. Rob started to climb the stairs to see what he was up to behind the curtain. Before he got up the stairs Jasper started pushing the curtain out, towards the edge of the stage. Rob rushed to stop him but Jasper fell over the edge of the stage. Rob jumped off to grab him, missed, Jasper landed on his head, and in the impact Gideon popped out of the sling and onto the ground!! All I heard was "thump", "thump", and another "thump" and then the loudest screaming from Jasper I've ever heard. I turned around to see Jasper and Gideon lying on the floor and screamed. It was horrible, horrible, horrible. We retreated to another room in the church to check on the boys. Jasper calmed down enough to tell us where it hurts (face and head) and to ask for his silkie and pacifier. Gideon nursed well and seemed unfazed, though he didn't cry which worried me at first. A friend later told Rob that Gideon landed on his side after only falling a foot or so. Poor Rob. He felt so bad. I've never seen him so distressed and sad before. Rob and I felt sick to our stomachs all afternoon thinking about what happened.
So after a good cry for everyone but Gideon, everybody seems fine. Rob gave Jasper a Priesthood blessing and we watched him really carefully for the rest of the day, woke him up twice during his nap, and we are going to wake him up in a couple of hours just to be safe tonight. After his nap, Jasper was pretty much completely back to his old self. He wanted to ride around the neighborhood on his bike with his friend Max. Gideon is fine too. Rob and I are probably more traumatized than either of our babies. Man alive, I sure hope this kind of thing never happens again...

Glad to hear everyone is fine, that was quite the incident. Linger Longer hasn't seen that kind of action for a while!
Tyler
how scary. I'm glad everyone is okay now.
That does sound scary! I'm glad everyone survived :-)!
There's just something about the gym stage...Always always always, someone falls off of it. It's a rite of passage if you're Mormon I think.
I'm SO glad to hear that all is okay at the egbert house.
So glad that everyone is all right. I'm glad that mom and dad were more shaken up than the boys were. I am VERY grateful nothing worse came of it.
And thank you -- the primary put together a phenomenal green linger-longer....
Oh Sara! Oh Rob! I'm so sorry you guys suffered this trauma. I do think it was worse for you than for either boy. I dropped David (twice, I think!) when he was a baby and it was so traumatic for me. His brain seems to be just fine now, though!
So glad the boys ARE OK and you're doing better, too.
Love you lots!
Oh my goodness! Sara, I know this must've been such a scary moment and I know I shouldn't laugh, but knowing they are all okay, I couldn't help but giggle a little! We've had our share of those circus moments. They really are moments you will laugh about later. Thump, thump, oh goodness!
I think every parent accidentaly drops their kids a time or two, so tell Rob not to fret.
