A year ago today...

So, this is where it all began... Co-sleeping with Jasper. Rob and I have decided to join forces and put an end to sharing our bed with Jasper. Last night was the first night. It went okay, actually. Jasper only woke up once. Maybe the reason he's waking up four or five times a night is because of us! Anyway, we'll miss snuggling him all night, but enjoy snuggling each other even more!

Jasper turned one!!

We are in Utah at the moment, visting Rob's family. We've been having a great time so far. Rob's sister Kim came out too, so it's been great to see so much of the family. First, we stayed up at Rob's dad and stepmom's house. Larry recently underwent open heart sugery. We've all been pretty worried about him. The surgery went fine and he's recovering really well, except for the fact that his resting heart rate is too high. We are now at Matt and Elena's house. Man alive, does Jasper enjoy his cousins! They all just love him so much and he gets so much attention from all of them, it's really fun. Next, we go up to Bountinful to stay with Rob's sister Kris and her family for two days.

Yesterday we celebrated Jasper's first birthday. It was a blast! There were about thirty Egberts/Wrights at the Brooks home. Jasper had his first taste of sugar, ice cream and frosting (Rob insisted...)! As we sang "happy birthday" to him, Jasper looked as though he might cry. I think all thirty people singing at him simultaneously must've frightened him a bit. He started walking last week, so we all had fun having him walk from person to person. Wow, it's been a big couple of days for my little baby.

I can't believe he's a year old... Thinking back to a year ago and the labor actually made me feel a little sick. I think because it was such a traumatic experience for me, I just don't know if I've completely gotten over it all. Don't get me wrong, it was totally worth every last second of it. Jasper is the best blessing in the world to both Rob and me. It was just when I thought "what was I doing a year ago right now?" at 11 pm the night before he was born and remembered how horrible it was at that moment, I just didn't know how to cope with those memories.

Jasper~ Happy Birthday, little babe!! Mama and Papa sure love you. You've blessed our lives in the deepest way life has to offer. We can't imagine life without you. You are such a happy, fun little boy. We're so grateful to have you in our family~

Jasper's new best friend

When we attened our Caucus, we met this great family that lives around the corner from us. They have a little boy (I'll refer to him as M) just two months younger than Jasper. How fun to have a friend that lives so close! M's mom and I have been hanging out and having playdates just about every week since. We got our families together for a dinner date on Friday night and M and Jasper went to town playing and showing off for each other.
