crunchy, snappy, sweet peas!
With the days getting longer, we've been having a hard time keeping track of the evening hours. We stayed at the garden till 9 pm on Monday night and 7 pm last night! Last night, we brought home a whole bunch of lettuce greens and I made myself a huge, delicious salad. After growing my own lettuce and knowing how tasty it is, I have a hard time eating store bought lettuce salads with as much enthusiasm. I know I probably should eat salads during the winter months but, quite honestly, I rarely do.
The garden is really shaping up this spring. We have some good friends who are gardening with us this year which is super fun. There has been a really huge disappointment this year, though. Carrots. My friend Jennifer and I sowed carrots TWICE and for some reason only a few came up. I think it may be the soil in this particular spot in the garden. I need to bring in a bag of compost and till it into the soil to see if I can get something to grow there. Anyway, I love garden grown carrots. They are so delicious. Our farmers' markets sell locally grown, delicious carrots but they are like $5 a bunch! It's getting to be too late in the season to try to sow them again. Better luck next year, right?

Oh, how cool Sara! I lvoe it that you are eating snap peas!!! I tried planting some here in a planter (we don't have a garden sigh), but they are only coming up slowly. Those were such fun memories growing up chomping on the peas in our yard (did we even save any for mom and dad?) and in Grandma and Grandpa's yard. I remember them being the best peas EVER.
That picture of you with your boys looks just like how you hoped your "future" life would be back in the day! You look so beautiful, happy, and healthy! I am jealous of your garden, I can't wait for our farmer's market to start up here!
How in the world is your garden looking so amazing and already giving you veggies? You look so happy and beautiful Sara- it must be partly because you are a farmer wearing overalls.
Sara...someone told me carrots need sandy soil since they need to get down into the ground to grow. Something to consider since most soil isn't naturally sandy, right?
The lettuce from the nature school garden was delicious. Thank you!
I need to learn from you how to make a support for my peas. They are dragging in the ground!
