Eat local for Thanksgiving!

I know I'm on a bit of a soapbox the past couple of days, but these are things that I care about- the environment, agriculture, religion, parenting. All things I care enough to share :)

Last year, we made the pledge to eat local for Thanksgiving and we are doing it again this year. Only hitch is we are going to Oregon to eat with my folks for Thanksgiving dinner. So if I'm pledging to eat local, does that mean I purchase the turkey in the Puget Sound or in the Willamette Valley?? Any suggestions?

If you live around here, you should take a stand too! Buy some local ingredients, go check out a turkey farm, shop at Pike's Place, etc. ..

You might be able to get a local turkey at the food co-op in Corvallis. I'm thinking of all the yummy local veggies that Richy's market carries, too. Sigh. I miss Oregon. Some day we'll move back! Eat some local boyz for me while you are there!

I agree with Kilburns. Let's go get a turkey pizza at American Dream. Or you can catch one in our back yard. You get to do the plucking and gutting...
Seriously, I have a phone call into Bald Hill Farms about buying a local turkey and are checking out some websites. If they don't pan out, we'll head to Freddies for a free range turkey or ask Rob to bring his shotgun and hatchet.

Yay for eating local. We found a place this year to get a turkey. Woo hoo! Hope yours is deliciousioso. I hope that ours is enjoying its last days to the fullest before we enjoy it.

I think that's an awesome goal! The Co-op in Lawrence made shopping local really easy - I haven't figured out how to do it in Omaha yet though! Hope you were able to make things happen although traveling!
