Sunny Seattle

Today was a beautiful day. Tomorrow is supposed to be even better. I'm so happy that spring has finally arrived. This seems like one of the longest winters of my life.

Our plan for this morning was to go work at our community garden p-patch. I got the boys and myself dressed- overalls, boots, sunhats, shovels, seeds, the whole works. We were ready to walk out the door when I realized I couldn't find my keys. I looked and searched. I asked Jasper where they were and he said "in the night kitchen" (one of his all time favorite books). I called Rob at work and he said that Jasper had been playing with them earlier in the morning. I asked Jasper again and he said the same thing. I looked for my keys for an hour and a half!! No keys anywhere. Finally, I decided to stop looking and pick up the house instead. As I was picking up Jasper's room, I found them underneath a diaper cover that was on the floor that I swear I'd looked under two times already.

Anyway, we ended up getting out of the house by 10:30 and going to BF Day playground. It was so much fun. Jasper is really starting to notice and play with Gideon. It fills my heart with such happiness. Here are some pictures from the morning:

Jasper's hair is incredibly curly. Here is a good close up of this row of ringlets along his neck, but it still doesn't quite give them justice. When I get his hair wet in the bathtub, it is way past his shoulders:

Tom Wales Memorial Run

On Saturday, I ran in the Tom Wales memorial 5K. It felt so great to run in a race again! The last race I ran was four years ago when we lived in DC. I love that feeling of seeing the finish line and giving it your all the last 200 yards or so. My time was okay, definitely a starting point that I can improve upon. Jasper got to run in a 1/4 mile kids' dash too. He was the youngest kid that ran and he did awesome! He spent the first couple of minutes trying to figure out what to do as he watched all the kids take off but he figured it out eventually and ran the entire distance.

Aunt Elena!!

Rob's sister, Elena, came to visit us this week! It was such a special treat to get her all to ourselves (thank you Brooks family!). Jasper adores her and has been really, really missing her the past two days since she left. She arrived Monday and we had a little picnic lunch at Gasworks park

before heading home so that Jasper and Gid could nap. After naps, we took a short walk over to Fremont Peak Park

which was great until Jasper fell face first off this 3 foot ledge and scraped up his face and gums. Sad, sad. Those two year old tumbles can be so heart wrenching. Anyway, after FPP we picked Rob up at school and decided to dine at Fondi, which was delicious. Elena got picked up on BIG TIME by our waiter. He put his arm around her shoulders a couple of times, made a point of telling us that he had just broken up with his girlfriend, and gave her an enormous cookie as we were leaving! It was a VERY warm welcome to Seattle for Elena!

Tuesday, we drove up to the Tulip Festival. No words can describe the beauty of a sea of tulips. We decided to make an adventure out of the drive, and drove over to Whidbey Island and onto the ferry on the way home. It was really fun.

Wednesday, we went to the zoo. We pretty much saw everything there is to see. It was a little cold, but no rain which was a blessing.

goat

cows

turtles

flamingos

peacock

otter

grizzly bear

elephants

After the zoo and naps, we went to dinner at Blue C Sushi. Yum, yum! I LOVE Blue C. Elena was so brave and tried some things she hadn't ever eaten before. I think the reason I love this restaurant so much is because they have the conveyor belt sushi. It's so fun to see all the different types of sushi.

We really miss Aunt Elena. Jasper has asked about her the past two mornings, wondering why she's not sleeping on our hideabed anymore. She was so helpful with Jasper and Gid. It makes me wish we had family closer. You are welcome to come stay with us anytime you'd like, Elena!

PSC Friday

We went to the Pacific Science Center today. We had a great time. We went with Sarah and Max and happened to run into Thor and Brad there too! The tot area has this fun water feature which Jasper LOVES. He loves it so much that each time we've been, he's somehow managed to completely soak his shirt, pants, socks and diaper. So today I got smart and stripped Jasper down to his diaper. Smart mama is what I call myself, others may call me crazy.
